Subject: Dead/Dying Mail Server Replaced

Hello,

Yesterday, May 21, 2004, the temporary mail server started behaving poorly.
The system was virtually useless from 4:40pm on. Knowing that the mail
server was temporary, we had been acquiring the components for a new mail
server since the mail server was moved to the temporary machine. Yesterday,
we were forced to build the new machine, because the server locked up. The
process of building the new server took much longer than we had hoped.

The good news is that the new server is 1.5 times faster (CPU speed) and
has 3 times the memory, so it should be faster overall.

At this time, the mail server is not allowing outbound messages. We have
placed the server in a state that will allow you to read your mail, but it
will not accept new mail nor will you be able to send mail. This situation
will be *temporary* ... we want to give the SPAM filters a chance to get
established before we start accepting new mail. Any mail that was sent to
you during this time period should be held in each sender's mail server
until our mail server is accepting mail again later today.
